A speech therapist's website that sends half its parents home
People arrive at a speech clinic at two extremes: with a three-year-old who cannot say "r", two years too early, or with a seven-year-old who has lisped for three years, by which point the habit is set and therapy takes three times as long. This site defuses both. An age slider, recalculating month by month from one to eight years, switches the state of eight fist-sized tiles of consonants — too early, may or may not be there yet, should be there by now. A four-year-old is still entitled to be missing ten sounds, and the site says so in its headline before anyone pays for an assessment. The ranges are deliberately wide, because that is what the norm actually is, and narrowing it sells therapy to healthy children. The second section matters more than the first and is visually stronger: the signs where you don't wait for any table — no response to sound, no babbling after twelve months, loss of skills the child already had. The calendar is about articulation; that list is about language development, and confusing the two is the costliest mistake parents make. The enquiry form recomputes the calendar server-side and tags the subject line with the conversation ahead — "probably too early", "about right", "may be late". There is no field for the child's name, a decision set out in the privacy policy: a month-count age is all an appointment needs. What stays manual is the list of free weekly slots — information that in this profession lives less than a week.
