Time on the water split into five components: river, arms, dragging across shallows. Past three hours with children the page proposes a shorter, cheaper stretch by itself.
After roughly three hours children stop paddling — not out of idleness, but because that is how long a six-year-old lasts in a buoyancy aid, in the sun, in one position. From that moment the parent tows twice the weight, and the family comes home resolved never to do it again. The longer stretch earns the base more money, which is exactly why no rental firm ever mentions this limit. The calculator on this page works out the time for a specific stretch, a specific group and today's water level, and once three hours are exceeded it proposes a shorter, cheaper route itself, adding the line "we earn less on it and we are saying so plainly". The result is not a single figure from a leaflet but a horizontal bar split into five components in five colours: how much the river carries, how much the arms do, how long the kayak has to be dragged across shallows, how long the portages take and how long the stops with children last. At low water it becomes visible that a fifth of the trip is wading beside the boat — something nobody renting kayaks by the hour will say. Water level is the second mechanism and it shifts every figure at once: when it is high, no children and no youth groups go out, and the full deposit is returned even on a booking made six months earlier. The contact form recomputes the time server-side, always for today's water, and sends the base a subject tag together with the instruction not to push the longer route. The header carries the water level, the gauge reading and the date of the morning check — because after heavy rain every time on this page changes.
